IBDP SUBJECT SELECTION

SUBJECT SELECTION LIST FOR 2021 – 2023

The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay (EE). Completion of the six subjects and the Core requirement contribute to the award of an IB Diploma.
IB allows you to take 6 subjects, with a minimum of 3 Higher Level (primarily focused towards your career choice) and 3 Standard Level (to keep further related options open). Learners must take one from Group 1-6 or may substitute one from Group 6 with a second subject from any other group.
An interdisciplinary subject meets the requirements of two groups through a single subject. In accordance with article 8.4, a further subject must then be chosen to meet the requirement of six subjects for the IB Diploma. The additional subject may be chosen from any group, including one already covered by the interdisciplinary subject. (Pg 7 General Regulations: Diploma Programme)

Students register for either the IB Diploma's or the Course:

IBDP DIPLOMA:

6 subjects with 1 from each group:
3 at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level + TOK, EE & CAS (*criteria must be met for all subjects and core)

NON-REGULAR IB DIPLOMA:

Allowing three sciences to be completed, usually in lieu of a group 3 (Individuals and societies) subject. A candidate may be authorized to take a non-regular diploma only if the proposed higher education course allows no other alternative eg: Medicine in India which requires the student to study three sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). The IB coordinator will make a request to the IB organization 18 months prior to the examinations. (*criteria must be met for all subjects and core)

IB COURSE:

Not all students choose to take the full course load leading to a diploma. Instead, some students choose to take DP subjects only in areas where they have a particular interest or strength. Individual Subject Certificates are awarded on a course-by-course basis to students who choose not to do the full programme. Students who satisfactorily complete a DP course earn a certificate in that subject.
